A limestone mansion built in 1903 by Horace Trumbauer right off Fifth Avenue with it’s extravagant Louis XVI French walnut paneling was re-envisaged to draw in harmonious design elements.
The Grand Room was first restored and then painted in a white chalk color. Architectural elements such as carved accents were refinished in white gold leaf, custom light fixtures were introduced, custom designed Lucite furniture, and a Baldwin Monarch piano was painted in faux driftwood marquetry.
Mirrors were strategically placed around the room to enhance the space, create luminosity and set the feeling of infinity. Ivory raw draperies enhanced the drama. The dark floor was stripped down and stained in a driftwood finish then partially covered with a custom oval Aubusson style rug designed in combinations of ice blue, celadon and ivory colors.
